After a good 8 1/2 hours drive from Lake Constance on the very tranquil motorways of Switzerland with many speed controls through the French Alps we went to Bourdeaux - no, not Bordeaux in the Pyrenees of south-west France, but with "ou". This very small, quiet village is located just east, right in the middle between Valence and Avignon. The actual start of our Lavender tour was in St-Lazaire-le-Désert and from there always very close to the large mountains over numerous extremely narrow pass roads (for example the "Col de Perty"). Altogether we had seven times ovenight sleepings in B & Bs, former manor houses, romantic guest houses or old hotels. Orpierre, Nyons, Ferrassières, Pierrerue, Valensole and at the end Digne-les-Bains were the targets for the night. A zig-zag course through the Provence regions "Drôme", "Hautes Alpes", "Alpes-de-Hautes-Provence" and "Vaucluse" of a total of about 500 km by car.
We have looked at another center of Lavender: Ferrassiéres. And Sault. Aurel, the small village of the painters. Of course Nyons, the famous city of black olives and olive oil. Simiane La Rotonde with a real castle and an ancient district. And Pierrerue - a god-deserted nest near Forcalquier (with a marvelous market). The restaurant "Le Bistrot de Pierrerue" is the place to go and experience true tastes. Incidentally, it is run by an American couple. But do not worry: apart from the English language you do not notice anything about it.
From Digne back again in 11 hours with many photo- and other breaks on a true dream road ("federal road") via Sisteron (you have definitely plan a day there and one night of course!) to North up to Grenoble and from there on the motorway to the well-known "Ländle" in Germany (our home).
